Paul's Page dedicated to his addiction and obsession!
One constant in my life is my love of music. My tastes have changed slightly over the years, but it is an important part of my life. I listen to industrial, techno, gothic, metal, thrash, pop, blues, classical, rap, jazz, anything that has a hook. I usually am not interested in music that has no intelligence to it. No mindless music, please. No lovey-dovey elevator music. (BARF!) I like music that has political or sociological content and commentary. This includes things of faith. It does not matter to me if I disagree with what they say, I appreciate their perspective. Some people could never understand that. I listen to gangsta rap, but I am a white guy. So? It is educational, and angry! I love angry music. Not all the time, mind you, but there are times when you are pissed off, you want to stay pissed off, and Led Zeppelin or Natalie Imbruglia just doesn't cut it. You need Pantera, Slipknot, Reveille, or Marilyn Manson's Antichrist Superstar!
At other times, when I need to use my brain for constructive purposes, like work or if I am in introverted/depressed state 'o mind, then it is The Cure, U2, Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd, AIC, and Smashing Pumpkins' Adore.
If you listen to something I don't like, fine. Your tastes are different. Just don't call what I listen to evil or damaging. It is just not for you. Why do people make such a big deal about music? Why does it become an issue, or especially something "wrong" with you for what you may like to listen to. What does my collection say is wrong with me? You decide. Conflicted? Angry? Depressive? Silly? Intelligent? Just fucked up? Yeah, ok.
AND IT IS NOT ALL ANGRY WHITE BOY MUSIC! Sheesh!
I am a CD addict. Ever since I got my first job at 15, I have always budgeted money to aquire new music. I usually ended up spending more than I budgeted, so I stopped budgeting, and just spend! :) I now own over 425 CDs, with a small assortment of CD singles. When I used to only buy cassette tapes in High School, I had over 200.
It is a drug, a vice. I MUST BUY CDs!!!! Oh wait, I just did. Ahhh.. Much better....
Recently Acquired:
As if I needed to spend the money on more things, here are some recent additions to my collection and my not so humble opinion on the CD. If I say I like it, that means you must go buy it, because I am sooper cool and smart and you want to be just like me.
I've been busy! I had a lull there for awhile, but I seem to be back. I think I got distracted by DVDs....
I'm also stopping the descriptions. If you see something you are curious about, please let me know.
