Paul's Tunes Page!!!!
Recently
Acquired:
Here
is a listing of some of the older CDs I recently purchased. I
was just going to delete the entries, but I thought, eh,
why? So, new page!
-
Robert Johnson - The
Complete Recordings
Jimi Hendrix - Experience
Hendrix (Free from Bonnie and Jaime. All the big name songs. Yay free
CDs!)
Danzig - Live on the Black
Hand Side (2 CDs. The first one is the older tunes
mostly, and I think it is the best recording and best sounding CD of the two. The
second CD is mostly new stuff, but Glenn needs to learn how to sing constantly
into the mike. his voice keeps cutting out and that gets annoying. But
otherwise, a cool CD.)
Danzig - 5: Blackacidevil
(Re-Issue) (SCORE!!!! Danzig! Yay Danzig! I became a huge
fan back in 1989 with Danzig 1. Through the years I stayed that way until I
came down with a bad case of Christianity. Once I started to recover, this was
one of the first CDs I bought. So, despite what the so-called fans think about
this particular release, it will always hold a place of distinction in my life.
Now, this was released on Holywood records, and I saw them on tour. Not too
long afterwards, there were some major legal issues, the CD was pulled from
stores. Later, Danzig moved to a better label that they started, E-Magine
Music. After Danzig 6 was released, Glenn promised to release it again, and he
did and added 3 more tracks! Sweeet! so, I had to get it. And the new ones are
pretty cool.)
Skrape - New Killer America
(MTV has finally done something right. On Digital cable, they
have MTV-X, which shows Rock videos ONLY! I saw them on it, and went to Tower
and bought it. Heavy. Not rappy. A bit weak in some spots, but real hardcore in
others. Check 'em out.
Muddy Waters - King of The
Blues (When I was in Costa Rica in 1999, I did not have enough Blues
with me. So, I bought this to accompany my others. Plus, these are required!)
Howlin' Wolf - Howlin'
Wolf/Moaning in the Moonlight (When I was in Costa
Rica in 1999, I did not have enough Blues with me. So, I bought this to
accompany my others. Plus, these are required!)
RedMan -Doc's Da Name (See
below.)
RedMan - Muddy Waters (See
below. RedMan is a funny guy. Loved da boodah smoke. Funny and bouncy shit.)
Method Man - Tical 2000:
Judgement Day (Last year sometime I branched out to
some East Coast Rap with the Method Man/Redman CD. I found it quite
entertaining. So, about a year later, on the streets of NY, I decide to buy
Meth's latest. Score!)
Sepultura - Nation (It
dawned on me that I liked music from Brazil years ago! Of course, this is not
quite what people envision. This is one of the better sounding CDs I've heard
from them in years. If you like heavy shit, give them a listen!)
Godhead - Power Tool
Stigmata (I liked their latest, so when I stumbled
across this one in Best Buy, I had to get it. It is more industrial, actually,
and less like New Order. Quite good. Not stellar, but good.)
Geto Boys - The
Resurrection (Ok. So years ago I liked these really
violent gangsta guys from Houston. Then I grew up a bit and forgot about them.
So why did I buy this CD? Well, have you ever seen Office Space? Well... you
know where the guys are 'executing' the printer.... well.... the song is on
this CD.)
Godhead - 2000 Years of
Human Error (This is the first band signed to
Manson's PostHuman record label. They are good. Kinda like Orgy+Manson+New
Order = Godhead.)
Xzibit - Restless (I had
not purchased a single CD in 2001 until I went to Fred Meyer for this. I
actually went looking for a Geto Boys CD, but bought this instead. It's good.
Xzibit seems to be on everything else I buy, so I figured I'd get one of his
own. Good hip-hop.)
Staind - Tormented (I
really like Dysfunction, which is their first major label release and the one
that you can buy. Their website is actually selling a re-release of their first
one from 1996. I bought it mostly just to hear it and see how much they've
changed. But I am actually impressed with it. Aaron's voice has improved, but
this one is rougher, harder, and much more angry. It's quite good.)
Papa Roach - Infest (I
just got it. The first track is weak, but the rest seems OK.)
Nirvana - Incesticide (I
only bought this because Columbia house kept threatening to charge me for my
membership if I did not buy one more, so I just ordered it. Yawn.)
Incubus - S.C.I.E.N.C.E. (These
guys are too weird to explain. Sounds like Beastie Boys meets a lounge act
sometimes, then just something weird later. You just have to hear it to believe
it.)
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
(Another
www.Shoutweb.com
artist. I meant to buy this CD earlier, but never quite got to it. Then the
radio picked it up and play them a lot. It is quite good.)
- Alice
In Chains - Live (I really
wish they would just release some new shit. Come on.
Don't make Pearl Jam the only act from the 'grunge' scene
to still exist.)
- Rage
Against the Machine - Renegades (The
second of my 3 CD purchase. This is a collection of cover
tunes from artists that they like. Bob Dylan, the Stones,
Bruce Springsteen, Afrikaa Bambaata, all sorts. It is
very good, and Rage puts their stamp on each track.
Unfortunately, this is the last thing they will release
with Zach as their singer. He split off to do his own
thing, but RATM will remain. I don't know what direction
they will take, musically or with their content. I would
expect the fire and political anger will travel with
Zach, though.)
- Nine
Inch Nails - Things Fall Apart (I
returned from Brazil and was 3 weeks removed from my last
CD purchase. So, this was the first of 3. It is a remix
CD of tunes from The Fragile. Some of them are quite good.
If you like Nails remixes, check it out. It's an EP, so
it is cheap!)
- Marilyn
Manson - Holy Wood (In the Valley of the Shadow of Death)
(I bought this a
couple of days before I left for Brazil. I did not get
that much opportunity to listen to it fully before I
left, but It had already infected my head with tunes. In
the time since, I have come to really appreciate this CD
and what it speaks about. Manson has a nack for writing
catchy tunes that are socially focused. I really like it.
It is more like ACS, but not as raw. It makes a good mix
of both sides of the Marilyn Manson persona.)
- GodSmack
- Awake (I first heard
Godsmack 2 years ago in a Fred Meyer parking lot. I went
in and bought their first CD for 10 bucks. I liked it,
but I thought that it kinda dragged in places. When it
was the heaviest, it was at its best. Now, their
sophomore release Awake has taken everything I liked from
the first one and done it better. The songs are heavier,
the vocals are better, even the songwriting is better. It
is a very good CD and it gets a lot of play. Hell, even
Chris & Sheila bought it!!!)
- Limp
Bizkit - Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water
(Ok, Fred Durst is an
asshole. He is not the most mature person, nor is he the
best musician/songwriter. But, Bizkit tends to put out
stuff that you like for awhile, then it gets old. Their
last two releases have been good, but not as good as
their first. It's no longer about Bizkit, it's about
Durst, and that get's old. He takes shots at Trent Reznor
on this, and it just seems silly. And the Fight Club
references in the CD seem very 9th grade. Oh well. It
sounds good, I play it, and it is decent. I just hope
that they turn themselves around before everyone gets
sick of them. Korn did it. Their first one was very good
and raw, then the next two were progressively less good.
The last one, Issues, made me a fan again. Bizkit better
do it too next time.
- The
Presidents of the United States of America (Move
into the country...gonna eat a lot of peaches.... Yeah.....
mmmmm peaches.... Free from Sheila. She's cleaning out
stuff she no longer wants. What else you got?)
- The
Beatles - Anthology 1 (Another
freebie from SHEILA!! I don't know how she can just get
rid of CDs. I keep all of mine, even the bad ones like
Green Day and Hootie and 311. Oh well. Never look a gift
CD in the jewel case. :) I didn't own any Beatles until
now, so hopefully when I get a chance to listen to it I
will enjoy it and buy more.)
- VAST
- Music for people (VAST's first
CD grew on me immediately (see review). It then became
associated with hiking, since I would play it in my car
when I would go out, 2 years ago. This new one is not
like the first one, musically. The first one was very
gothic and techy. This one reminds me a lot like U2, back
from the old days. It is very good, but the songs are too
short and the CD is over just about the time you get into
it. But, it is good stuff, and if you like good melodic
music, check it out.)
- Spineshank
- The Height of Callousness (9
dollars. 9 dollars is not a lot to spend on something
like this. Spineshank is another band I found on
Shoutweb, and I listened to them online but was not
impressed enough to hunt down the CD when it came out.
But, I was at Fred Meyer and it was there for $9. I
listened again, and I bought it. There are a couple of
really good tracks that stood out immediately, and the
rest of it is slowly growing on me. It is very heavy,
much like a Slayer or Pantera, but not as they are today,
but like Seasons or Trendkill. Sheila, Chris: You might
like this.)
- Orgy
- Vapor Transmission (Ok,
look past the name. Orgy is a good band. Friends of Korn,
on their label, this is their second release. It is a lot
better than Candyass. Much more mature. Very electronic.
Kind alike Duran Duran meets MInistry.)
- Relative
Ash - Our Time with You (Yawn.....
A blaring Deftones rip-off, and I am not a huge Deftones
fan. I should not have bought this. Oh well.)
- Mudvayne
- LD50 (Ok, this is not that
good. It sounds a lot like Pantera, which is not too bad
of a thing, but Pantera gets old. This just has not grown
on me.)
- Liquid
Gang - Sunshine (Found on
shoutweb.com.... I thought these guys were going to be
heavier than this CD is. At least that was my initial
reaction. But after a couple listens it grew one me and
now it gets a good rotation. I would call it Godsmack
meets Cold.)
- (HED)
P.E. (Planet Earth) - Broke (Found
these guys on shoutweb.com. This one came out, I bought
it, I liekd it immediately. It is very bouncy, yet
crunchy and offensive. Entertaining. If you like Bizkit,
check them out. If you don't like Bizkit, and it's
because you think Fred Durst sucks, check out Hed PE.)
- (HED)
P.E. (Planet Earth) - (HED) P.E. (Planet Earth) (This
is their first one. It is not as good as 'Broke, but good.
It's one of the first real forays into the blend of metal
& rap of the late nineties.)
- Cold
- Thirteen Ways to Bleed on Stage (This
is a band I found at www.shoutweb.com,which
is an evil place for a CD junkie like me to hang out.
They are really good actually. Very emotional, crunchy
guitar, catchy tunes. Definately worth a listen if you
like heavy stuff.)
- Public
Enemy - Apokalypse 91: The Enemy Strikes Black (My
favorite PE CD. Hmmm.... Why are they so angry at white
people and stupid black people???)
- The
Union Underground - ...An Education in Rebellion (I
first listened to this at Tower, but did not want to pay
15 bucks for it. Freddies had it for 7, so I picked it up.
Have you heard Powerman 5000 or White Zombie? Well, then
you've heard these guys. Not very original, but somewhat
enjoyable. And for 7 bucks, I'm not gonna complain.)
- Incubus
- Make Yourself (I've tried 3
times to listen to this in stores to see if I liked it.
I've always been curious about Incubus, but nothing ever
really stuck. So, this time I listened, and I liked it. I
have no idea how to rescribe it to you, but it is very
listenable. Not very heavy at all, just decent tunes.)
- Machine
Head - The More Things Change... (I
got a nasty note from Columbia house stating that I have
6 months to buy 3 CDs, or they'll charge me for the
membership package. So, even though I exhausted them of
things I was willing to pay full price for a year ago, I
had to get this one. I liekd their latest one, but this
one is only marginally enjoyable. Just gets boring.)
- Primer55
- Introduction to Mayhem (Just
like Disturbed, I saw a bit of a video from these guys on
The Box, and looked 'em up. Very heavy. Much like
Slipknot, just not as vicious. Good stuff. Definately
needs to be played loud.)
- Silverchair
- Freak Show (I've always
wanted to check their CDs out, because the radio plays
them from time to time, and they are alright. This is
their first release, and it sounds a lot like Nirvana
sometimes, sometime Pearl Jam, and then sometimes heavier
stuff. It works. Won't get heavy rotaiton, but I dig it.)
- Silverchair
- Neon Ballroom (Their latest.
This one is good, but the tempo changes a bit too
frequently. It's good, but it is hard to listent to
sometimes, going from a really heavy track to something
with an orchestra. I like it though.)
- Public
Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet (This
is an old one. I used to really be into PE when I was in
high school, I had all of them. I got a hair up my butt
and picked this up. Sweeet... I always liked their
political content, whether I agree with them or not. I'll
be picking up a couple more of these.)
- Pitchshifter
- www.pitchshifter.com (Finally
found this one. I like this one a lot. (And there is NO
schoolhouse rock on here, Sunny. Shuddup!) Remarkably, I
like Pitchshifter a lot. It is kinda different than some
of the stuff I am getting into lately.)
- Nine
Inch Nails - Into the Void (Halo16) (I
had to special order this from Tower, because no one was
keeping it in stock. There is nothing new on it, but it
is a Halo, so I had to get it. Yay NIN!)
- Kotton
Mouth Kings - High Society (Hmmmm....
What do you suppose they discuss on their CDs, eh? With a
name like KottonMouth, it has to be WEEEEEEED. Buncha
stoner whiteboys rapping about weed, joints, blunts,
dimebags, bongs and reefer. Good stuff. Uh... Excuse me,
I uh... Uh... I'll be right back.)
- Deftones
- White Pony (See, I buy
seedees all the time. This is one that I could have
waited on, but noooo, I had to hunt down tracks online,
then they grew on me, and then I found myself at Fred
Meyer during lunch buying it. Cuzimaluzer. It is good
though, if you like Deftones. Chino's voice can get
irritating, but it is good when in the mood for it.)
- Static-X
- Wisconsin Death Trip
(See below. This is one of the bands from the Family
Values thingy. Many many moons ago, some dork wrote in my
guestbook about them being 'Evil Disco'. So, considering
I hate disco, I payed it no mind. Silly me. It is very
good. Heavier than most shit these days, but still
listenable. Check 'em out!)
- Family
Values Extra Values CD
(I got this one from Sheila, who got it when she bought
Korn last year, or something. It is actually pretty good.
The problem? I like about 5 of the bands on here that I
don't already have CDs from. So, this free little CD is
gonna end up costing me mucho dinero. Yay!)
- Dope
- Felons and Revolutionaries
(I first heard these guys on MP3.com with a cover version
of NWA's Fuck the Police. After hearing more about them,
I checked them out, and realized that they are good. So,
of course, I bought it cuz I am a junkie. It is actually
pretty good. It is like Marilyn Manson meets Rob Zombie.
Very good. It grew on me, so if you like either MM or RZ,
check 'em out. NOW!)
- Kid
Rock - The History of Rock (Ok,
so I admitted I liked him. He's actually alright, for
white Detroit Trash. (like Eminem) This has one new tune,
plus a bunch of old shit that you can't get anymore. Most
of it is pretty good, but some of it is pretty weak. Oh
well.Yay tunes!)
- Pitchshifter
- Deviant (A bit of a diversion
for me. They used to be more techno-industrial, but now
they are just more like Blink-182 or something more radio
friendly. Still, it's alright.)
- KMFDM
- Adios (Their last CD. Hence
the name. It is ok, but their older stuff is a lot better.)
- KMFDM
- Angst (This is their older
stuff, and it is quite good. Lotsa guitar, too. Very
crunchy, very industrial. Very good stuf, da?)
- A
Perfect Circle - Mer de Noms
(A side project of sorts from Tool's Maynard James Keenan.
(If you had a hard time with his voice in Tool, you might
like this. It is much smoother.) It is quite good. Check
them out. The cool thing is that they are opening for NIN
when I go in June! Supa Sweet!)
- Eminem
- The Marshall Mathers LP (Sophomore
release from the guy who made the world safe for white
rappers finally. It is just as bouncy and entertaining as
the first one, if you like that sort of thing.)
- Family
Values Tour 99 (Korn,
Bizkit, Staind, Primus, Method Man & Redman, all live
from the last FV tour. Pretty good, Beavis)
- Disturbed
- The Sickness (Saw part of
a video on TheBox, and ran out to Tower to buy it. Good
old fashioned Industrial Metal. Woo hoo!)
- Mission
Impossible 2 Soundtrack
(New Bizkit, Rob Zombie, A decent Metallica tune (in
comparision to the other shit), and a decent collection.)
- Kid
Rock - Devil Without a Cause
(Ok, so I'm kinda embarrased to say that I bought it and
like it. I mean, the name? Corny. But that is part of the
appeal. This is a case of white trash done good. POS
Detroit trash, rappin' over heavy tracks, blatantly white
trash, and entertaining. so, I bought it. sunny Had it,
and like with Eminem, I had to buy it. Eventually. I like
it. Sosueme.)
- Milo's
Machine - Rebirth of a New Machine
(Another MP3.com band. This is industrial electronic
stuff. Local guys from Surrey, B.C.)
- The
Shizit - Evil Inside (I
was browsing around mp3.com, and stumbled across these
guys. Local industrial band, and quite good. So, like a
good internet music user, I bought the CD. Hey, for 6
bucks, what the hell!)
- American
Psycho Soundtrack (Good stuff.
A lot of remixed 80's stuff, and new stuff from old 80's
bands. Good tunes to listen to while doing stuff.)
- Method
Man & Red Man - Blackout! (East
Coast Rap. Method is a former Wu. I like it. It is
entertaining. They smoke a lot of weed, too. Cooooool....)
- Pantera
- Reinventing the Steel
(Yawn. I'm giving up on many bands I used to like. They
are either wussing out or just putting out crap. This one
is boring, except for 2 tracks. Certainly not worth the
money. Oh well.)
- Eazy-E
- Str8 Off Tha Streetz of Muthaphukkin Compton
(I'm intending to get everything from NWA folks. Eazy is
not really that good of a rapper, but his tunes can
bounce from time to time. This is a collection of shit he
recorded from 1993- till he died. Some of it is good,
some of it is not. Oh well. Good thing Dre, Cube, and Ren
are still around. They were better then anyway.)
- Ice
Cube - War & Peace Volume 2: The Peace Disc
(FINALLY! I've been waiting for this damn thing for a
year. Worth the wait. And it was released at a good time
too, since I am in a major rap mode. Very Bouncy. Chris
rock is on it ("Kryptonite, nigga!"). And....
MC Ren and Dr. Dre are on there as well on the first
track! Very cool! I really hope there is an NWA reunion
CD coming soon. I love the perspective that they have
been taking lately. They started all this shit, and it is
cool that everyone is hanging out again. )
- N.W.A
- Straight Out of Compton 10th Anniversary Tribute
(I also picked this up used after an Earls outing. It's
not what I wanted, I thought it was the original, but
it's just a tribute. It's ok though. But if I was sober I
would have known better. BUT IT'S BEANE'S FAULT)
- MC
Ren - Shock of the Hour
(Picked up used on the Ave, drunk. I've been looking for
more Ren anyway. What can I say, I'm in a rap mode. AND
IT'S BEANE'S FAULT)
- Nine
Inch Nails - Further Down the Spiral (Yeah,
I already have this. Sorta. I suddenly realized that
there was TWO of them. Halo 10 is a 2-parter. So, I had
to get it. Yay!!!)
- Easy-E
- It's On (Dr. Dre) 187UmKilla
(Had to get this because I always found the whole NWA
breakup thing funny. Everyone beat down everyone else,
and it's funny to hear the insults. Especially now since
E is dead, and everyone else is cool with each other
again.
- N.W.A.
- Greatest Hits (Nothing to
say, but 'Don't matter, just don't bite it.)
- Eminem
- The Slim Shady LP (Funny white
guy rapper. He's on Dre's label, and he's interesting. I
don't care much for white rap, because it is usually just
white boys trying to be black. Slim is not black. And
he's tight with Dre, so he's gotta be cool. The CD is
entertaining.)
- Ice
Cube - Lethal Injection
(Picked this up again at the same time as NWA. Not one of
his strongest releases, but it has good stuff on it. It's
poh-litical!)
- N.W.A.
- Niggaz4life (I had to.
Stuck in this rap mode, listening to new Dre and MC Ren,
I had to go back and get this. Good old shit, Find 'em
Fuck 'em and Flee, One less Bitch, all the shit that
everyone now clones. How many people do you know who get
all nostolgic while listening to gangsta rap? I can still
remember sitting around with Chris, listening to this
shit, saying the raps, mouthing the funny parts, whatever.
Aren't you supposed to get nostalgic about old love
songs? Feh. Fuck that.)
- N.W.A.
- The Legacy (A
collection of NWA tracks, and stuff from a buch of
artists who came from it. Dre, Cube, MC ren, Mac 10, Dogg
Pound, assorted others.)
- Smashing
Pumpkins - Machina: The Machines of God
(I was sick the day this came out, and was unable to get
it. Fortunately, it showed up at my apartment anyway,
because Sunny bought it for me. How nice! It's very good.
It's like Melon Collie meets Adore. I like it a lot. I
listened to it a lot while in Victoria.)
- MC
Ren - Ruthless for Life (More
Rap. Duh. Another NWA guy. This one is good and offensive.
Good beat. Lots of cursing. Good family fun.)
- Skinny
Puppy - The Process (At times,
this is good. At times, it is not. I think I like the
early Puppy better than the later stuff. This was the
last recording before someone died and all hell broke
loose. I think it shows.)
- KMFDM
- Retro (I've wondered for
years about these guys, and never had an opportunity to
really give them a try. So I bought this collection and I
love it. They sound like Skinny Puppy, Ministry, and
Machines of Loving Grace, and then more. Verynice.
Definately need more.)
- New
Order - Power, Corruption, & Lies (Another
good 80's band that actually did more than one good song.
I intend on buying more.)
- Parliament
- Greatest Hits (Yep. More
Parliament. 70's funk, man, you dig?)
- Dr.
Dre - 2001 (Always liked Dre. I
started out on NWA, and I still listen the the children
and grandkids that came out of that breakthrough group.
Dre, Cube, Snoop, 2-Pac, you name it: It all started with
NWA. This is good. It's groovy. Just a good listen to.)
- Rolling
Stones - Let it Bleed (I think I am kinda on Stones kick.
During a recent Earls outing, someone played 2 or 3
stones tracks that I have always liked, and I looked at
the jukebox to see what CD they were from, then bought it.
I like this one. It's got Let it Bleed, Gimme Shelter,
Country Honk, Monkey Man, and the main reason I bought
it, You Can't Always Get What You Want.) (Yes, I am also
aware that a good chunk of these songs were in
Goodfellas, and I am sure that is partly why I like them
so much....)
- Lost
Highway Soundtrack (Never saw the movie, but needed the
Bowie, Pumpkins, Manson and Nails tracks.)
- Friday
Soundtrack (Beane and I watched this one night and I
loved it! Definately a purchase. I bought this
specifically for the Ice Cube track and the Rick James
'Mary Jane' song on it. Very nice.)
- Natural
Born Killers Soundtrack (I've wanted this for years. I
loved the movie, partly because of the soundtrack. It is
a very diverse soundtrack; Anything that has Snoop Dogg
and NIN and Patsy Cline is abnormal. But then, so was the
movie.)
- Mystikal
- Ghetto Fabulous (This guy was on the AGS soundtrack, so
I gave his CD a try. He's a rapper who looks like
KrisKross, but sounds like someone who's been smoking for
50 years. Very raspy. But it is good.)
- The
Cure - Bloodflowers (WOOO HOOO! Finally! Even though I
had this bootlegged a month and a half ago, I was
seriously stoked to have it finally come out! I bought me
and Beanie a copy. Now we just have to wait for the tour....
This is actually one of the BEST Cure releases. I rank it
right up there with Disintegration and Pornography.)
- Any
Given Sunday Soundtrack (Saw the movie, liked the tunes,
bought the 'track. It is mostly Rap, and it is actually
very good if you like rap. It actually spawned me into a
rap mode. It also has some rock tunes on it, but the rap
is actually better.)
- Sevendust
- Sevendust (Their first one. Not as good as Home, but
good nonetheless. It grows on you.)
- Sevendust
- Home (I picked this up at Fred Meyer on one listen. I
had heard some stuff on the radio and liked it, so I gave
it a try. This is really good. Kinda heavy, kinda
melodic, very catchy. One of the better CDs I've
purchased.)
- Machine
Head - The Burning Red (Impulse buy at Fred Meyer. Good
stuff. Kinda like Pantera, but without the screaming.)
- Eerie
Von - The Blood and the Body (A former Danzig member.
this CD is very hard to find, but yet I found it used at
a shop on the Ave. It is good. It's got a Danzig feel to
it, but it is defintely different. Very good. Too bad it
is hard to find. I think it would see pretty good.)
- Reveille
- Laced (Another time I was loitering on the Ave, I
stopped at a Tattoo shop to get some ideas for what I
want. They were playing this, and I never heard of it
before. I liked it, so when I left the store, I went to
Tower and got it. How sad, huh. Anyway, it is very heavy,
and it reminds me of Rage a bit, and some other bands.
Good stuff.)
- Powerman
5000 - Mega!! Kung Fu Radio (Not as good as their latest
one. But ok. And I got it really cheap, too. :) )
- Parliament
- Best of (You have to have Parliament. This has Bop Gun,
P-Funk, Give up the Funk, all sorts of good old fashioned
George Clinton 70's funk! I have another one on the way.)
- Korn
- All Mixed Up (A few remixes. (Duh...))
- New
Order - Best of (I got this CD free from Viet. Very good!
Soooo 80's! Nice and upbeat.)
- Skinny
Puppy - Last Rights (A full release. There are some good
things on here, but it got too noisy. I think I like the
earlier stuff better.)
- Skinny
Puppy - The Singles Collect (I liked the B-sides so much,
I started my usual bit, buying other stuff by an artist
after getting one thing. Good stuff.)
- Skinny
Puppy - The B-Sides Collect (One night right after the
disaster at work and the death of my sister, I left work
early and went the the Ave. I visited Tower and they had
this selection at a listening station. So after listening
to it, I bought it. It's very good. Good industrial shit.
KInda noisy at times, and I don't like all of it, but
when they are good, they are Excellent.)
- Marilyn
Manson - Last Tour on Earth (Live CD. Pretty good.
Nothing like good offensive Manson this holiday season.
and there is one new track on it. 'Astonihing Panorama of
the End Times'. Very good track. If you like Manson, and
I KNOW you do, you have to get this.)
- KoRn
- Issues (I got a bootleg copy of this a month ago, so I
have had plenty of time to review it. First off, it is
very different. But one thing I like about it is that it
deals more with emotional issues than Follow the Leader
did, going back to the older KoRn style in that regards.
That was my main problem with FTL, even though it was
still a good CD. Issues is very good, and after listening
to it the first couple times, you get appreciate the
change in style, and it is very catchy.)
- Rage
Against the Machine (Another one I have been impatient
for. Very good! It feels and sounds like an equal mix of
their first two. You can't beat Rage for good angry
politically charged music. I strongly recommend this one
to anyone who thinks they have taste in music.)
- Danzig
- 6:66 Satan's Child (Oh my god. I've been waiting for
this one for 2 years. After dealing with some shit from
his 2 previous record lables, Glenn finally got it all
straighted out and managed to release one of his best.
This has everything. It shows a progression over the
years, has an old feel of Samhain, but with hints of
classic Danzig, and the direction he started with 4p and
Blackacidevil has been fine-tuned. I have been listening
to this one extensively.)
- Rob
Zombie - American Made Music to Strip By (A remix CD of
tunes from Hellbilly Deluxe. If you go for remixes get it.)
- Semisonic
- Feeling Strangely Fine (Borrowed this one from Jen
after seeing them at the BNL show. It's pretty good.
Radio friendly, non offensive, general rock/pop. It has
its place. Hell, I liked it enough to order it, so what
the hell.)
- Primus
- Antipop (Great Primus. Very good! If you've never heard
Primus, you are a sad, sad, individual. You have my pity.
But for those smart people who know 'em and love 'em,
this is a classic. It is more like Punchbowl and Pork
Soda than Brown Album. It is very good. Get it NOW!)
- Live
- The Distance to Here (I like Live. This one is
different than the others. Throwing Copper is still the
best by far all around. Secret Samadhi is good musically,
but the lyrics are kinda stupid in places. TDTH is better
lyrically, and not quite as good musically. But overall,
it is good. It is catchy, and sticks in your brain when
you are not listening to it.)
- Creed
- Human Clay (Pretty good overall. Creed is a band that
suits moods. I bought My Own Prison when it came out when
I lived in KC. I listened to it incessantly in the truck
when I drove all over town for PRI. Their sophomore
release shows a bit more maturity, and it is actually
harder than their debut. I like it the more I listen to
it. With the exception of 'With Arms Wide Open', which is
another song dedicated to the guy's kid. Blah blah blah.
Creed's tunes have a spiritual overtone, but I can get by
that because there is enough anger or angst that makes it
ok to deal with.)
- Smash
Mouth - Astro Lounge (Yeah, ok. Radio. I got bit. This
one is catchy though. Sure, it is simple and very
commercial, but it fits a mood sometimes, and that's cool.
Deal with it.)
- Faith
No More - Angel Dust (A re-buy. Had the cassette in 1992
when it first came out, and wore it out, then threw it
out. This one is very bizarre, and it definately is
different from any other FNM. But it is quite good, if
you like listening to a freakshow.)
- Nine
Inch Nails - The Fragile (Oh my GOD! Finally! I raced to
Fred Meyer this morning to get this. I've waited, oh, 4
or 5 years to hear new shit. And, I must say it was worth
the wait. This is a double disc, 100+ minutes, 23 tracks.
They are all excellent. Every one. I am currently on my
third listen in a row, both discs. 'The Wretched' is
easily one of the coolest things I have ever heard. There
is a lot of diversity to this release. Lots of piano,
some violins, orchestration, and of course, good old
fashion NIN anger and stuff. It is different, but it is a
natural progression from Trent's earlier work. I am
seriously impressed. Okay, so now it is Saturday, and I
have been listening to nothing but these CDs since 7:05am
Tuesday. This is superb!)
- Coal
Chamber - Chamber Music (This is really good. I heard
these guys years ago with Danzig and bought their debut
CD. This is actually better than it was. It grows on you.
If you like crunchy guitar and angry music, check it out!)
- Megadeth
- Risk (There comes a time when the grandfathers of metal
need to step aside. Their usefulness and creativity has
run out. This happened to Metallica long ago, but they
persist on polluting the planet with loser shit. Megadeth
is another one. Now, I admit that all of their CDs
usually have to grow on me before I appreciate them. I
don't know if this one will. It is a bit cliché, and
slightly predictable. Kinda boring, actually. It is
nothing like what Metallica did, not even close. But
still, I think it is time that MegaDave throws in the
towel. He had a good run. He needs to either quit or get
back on Cocaine. (That's a joke, there.))
- Filter
- Title of Record (Got this one free. It's pretty good.
In some ways it is better than Short Bus. But, this is
also nothing spectatular. Filter is good, but nothing to
jump around about.)
- Powerman
5000 - Tonight the Stars Revolt (Good CD. Kind of like
White Zombie and Manson. In fact, Rob Zombie and Ginger
Fish appear on a couple tracks. It is good, but nothing
spectacular. Worth the 8 bucks I spent.)
- Hot
Sauce Johnson - Truck Stop Jug Hop (I don't know what to
say about these guys. You just have to hear them www.hotsaucejohnson.com
Go there. Get samples. Go now.)
- Faith
No More - The Real Thing (Had to. Stupid Greatest Hits CD.
I am still looking for Angel Dust, though.)
- The
Cure - Japanese Whispers (Rare German Import. Very good.
One of the more up-beat (Yes, Jen. The Cure DOES have
upbeat songs. Sheesh.) CDs of theirs that I have. And it
has 'The Love Cats' on it, and you can't get much more
upbeat and toe-tapping than that.)
- The
Cure - The Top (Rare German Import. Oooh Good one. Darker.
Not nearly as dark as Pornography, but dark nonetheless.
Very good.)
- Storm
and Her Dirty Mouth - Storm and Her Dirty Mouth (Jen's
recommendation. She saw them at the Bite and bought the
EP. I downloaded some MP3's and liked it, soo......)
- Underworld
- Dirty Epic/Cowgirl (Yeah, I know. Cope. Corrie called
me a 'cd whore'. Jeez.)
- Underworld
- Pearls Girl (Yeah, I am sad. An EP. It was cheap! I'm a
junkie!)
- Faith
No More - Who Cares A Lot? (Greatest Hits) (Finally
recieved this. It's 2 CDs, one CD is a bunch of rare
stuff and I have not listened to it yet. This is good,
though. I think I need to run out and get at least Angel
Dust and The Real Thing again. Dammit)
- The
Universal Soldier: The Return (Soundtrack) (Never heard
of the movie. Never saw a trailer for it. But I bought
the soundtrack. Why? Because it contains cool stuff. And
a new MegaDave track. More angry music. Just what I need.)
- Slipknot
- Slipknot (Holy Crap dude! IF you thought Orgy looked
weird, check out these freaks. And angry???? Oh my gawd!
Take a pill, dude. Relax.... thngs are not that bad...
Smoke a joint and chill, mmmkay? Very Very angry. I can
definately see this getting played)
- Staind
- Dysfunction (Never heard of these fellers. Found myself
at Tower Records, and listened. Then Purchased. Very good.
If you like Creed, Second Coming, Korn, Deftones,
Godsmack, check it out.)
- Nine
Inch Nails - The Day the World Went Away (Single) (Yeah,
so it's just a single, but it's huge. Mass rad. The bomb.
Tha Shiznit. Get it.)
- The
Cure - Assorted Singles (I bought 5-7 singles that have
songs that were not included on the albums. Now, I need
to have them put all on one CD. It's like a new Cure CD!)
- The
Cure - Paris (Another concert. Sadly, this CD is
defective and I have to send it back, so I have no review.)
- The
Cure - Show (Good concert. 1993. When they tour, I am
soooooo there. I missed Depeche Mode, I won't miss The
Cure.)
- The
Cure - Sideshow (I guess the Show concert was too much to
put on one CD, and not enough for a double CD, so they
released a maxi-single with some other songs. Smart move
was to put Fascination Street on the Single, because that
makes gits like me buy it. Great Marketing.)
- The
Cure - Mixed Up (A collection of remixes up to 1990 Good
stuff)
- The
Cure - Pornography (AWESOME!!!!!! Very Dark, very
depressing, very very good. Especially 'Cold' and
'Hanging Garden' and this one and this one and this one.....))
- The
Cure - Faith (No, this is not George Michael. More early
Cure. 1981? I think so. Very good.)
- The
Cure - Seventeen Seconds (More old Cure. Verry good. Buy
it.)
- The
Cure - Boys Don't Cry (1979. 1979! You can definately see
the direction they took even back then. They just keep
getting better, 20 years and counting.)
- Orbital
- Snivilization ( I love Orbital. Sadly, I have not given
this one much of a chance. Too much Underworld.)
- Underworld
- Dubnobasswithmyheadman (I think I like these guys too
much. I have to resist the urge to buy everything I see.
This one is very good. But, like the others, it grows on
you in chunks. The whole thing is good when you first
hear it, but over time parts stand out, then larger
chunks, then more, then the whole thing becomes one
entity. It's very cool.)
- Underworld
- Second Toughest in the Infants (Dammit. I have found a
musical soulmate at work. Corrie. Crazy woman. We share a
bond in music. She mentioned Underworld to me, knowing
that I like Orbital and other electronic stuff. So, I
went to find some MP3's online, and found out that they
are really coooool! I bought 2 cds on Friday. I resisted
the urge to pick up the other one. It's all I've been
listening to. This one is good.)
- Underworld
- Beaucoup Fish (I am hooked on this one. It goes in the
CD player in repeat mode. Very, very good. Very groovy,
very smooth overall, with some great upbeat moments. Good
driving tunes.)
- The
Cure - Staring at the Sea (Dammit. The singles collection
from 1979 to 1985. I really like the sound they had then.
You could definately tell the progression to what they
have now, starting especially with Disintegration. Very
good, so much so that I ordered 7 more from the club,
mostly the old CDs. 5 of them are free. Yay Clubs!)
- Marilyn
Manson - Portrait of an American Family (I. Like. This.
CD. A lot. Suprised I did. It is very raw, and noisy at
times, but it is good. Nice and anti-family and offensive.
If you liked ACSS, get this.)
- Overkill
- Necroshine (Ok. I got this one free from the club. Good
thing too. Is it bad when you are listening to a CD and
laughing at it? It is so predictable in places, and my
word, Bobby 'Blitz' just cracks me up sometimes. His
voice is weird. The music is good, but nowhere NEAR their
last one. Don't bother.)
- Chemical
Brothers - Surrender (New one! This CD has grown on me.
It is very good, if you like that sort of thing. Orbital,
Crystal Method, Moby, the Orb, techno dance trip hop type
claptrap. Very good. Has a couple down points, but
overall, a good CD.)
- Alice
in Chains - Nothing Safe: The Best of the Box (Yay!
Finally SOMETHING from these guys! Good Lawrd! But, only
one new song, Get Born Again, which is excellent. There
is a demo version of We Die Young which is also very good.
And the song they did for the Last Action Hero Soundtrack.
The rest of it is regularly available stuff, except for
the live Rooster. Best Buy was selling a bonus CD with 2
live tracks on it, and since we have no Best Buys here, I
begged Sheila to buy it for me, ship it, and I'd pay her.
Which she did. She's such a pal. Sniff Sniff. Always
thinking of me first...)
- Ministry
- Dark Side of the Spoon (Very different from the recent
stuff. Not as techy. It is good, though. Although the CD
art sucks ASS!)
- Suicidal
Tendencies - Join the Army (Been bugging me for sometime,
so I just upped and bought it. )
- Orbital
- The Middle of Nowhere (Very good, if you like that sort
of thing. After many, many, many listens, I LOVE this CD,
and everything I have heard from Orbital. Good party
music, good work music, good driving music, good reading
music, Play it anywhere.)
- Limp
Bizkit - Significant Other (Good. Very good in places. I
think the first one is better, but I only got this
yesterday, so it may take a bit to fully grow on me like
the other one did. 'Nookie', 'Break Stuff', and 'I'm
Broke' are excellent.)
- Orbital
- In Sides (Very, Very nice. Love it. Gotta get more.
Nuff Said.)
- The
Cure - Galore (Singles collection. Nice. It's the
versions of tunes that they released as singles. You can
always tell real fan, because we are the goobers who buy
the singles collections.)
- Cake
- Prolonging the Magic (Very cool. Kinda folky, kinda
like Beck. Kinda Not. But, Going to Costa Rica with me!)
- The
Sisters of Mercy - A Slight Case of Over Bombing (
Greatest hits. Nuff said.)
- The
Sisters of Mercy - First, Last, and Always (Never had
this one before. Came before Floodland. Quite good.)
- The
Sisters of Mercy - Vision Thing ( I bought this 10 years
ago. It is still excellent, and forced me to buy more.
Fuck, I feel old now.)
- Barenaked
Ladies - Shoebox EP (The final installment of the BNL
collection. YAY!)
- Fear
Factory - Demanufactured - (So, I needed more heavy stuff.
This is pretty good. nice and angry. Not the greatest,
but Obsolete took some time to grow on me, so this one
should as well. I'll keep you updated.)
- The
Cranberries - Bury the Hatchett (Yay! New Cranberries!)
- My
Life with the Thrill Kill Kult - Confessions of a Knife (Another
purchase based on a song on a soundtrack. this was an
impulse buy. We'll see what I think.)
- The
Sisters of Mercy - Floodland (I owned this long ago, back
in AZ, and before I went insane and dumped all my tunes
in the trash. I forgot how much I liked these guys.
Nothing like Brittish Goth. Very cool.)
- The
Matrix Soundtrack (Well, I own the CDs that has at least
1/2 of the tunes on here, but combined with the stuff I
don't have makes a great collection. Especially
Propellerheads, Rob D, Meat Beat Manifesto. Check out the
flick. NOW!)
- The
Cure - Wild Mood Swings (This one had to grow on me a bit.
But it is very good. This was their latest studio release.
Did you know they have been putting out recordings since
1979? Daaaaaaaaamn!)
- Pet
Shop Boys - Very (Yeah, yeah. So I like the PSB. So what.
I can't decide which one I like better. I have 2 now. We
shall see how far I take this.)
- Suicidal
Tendencies - Prime Cuts (I guess this is supposed to be a
greatest hits CD or something. Well, maybe some of it.
But there is nothing from Join the Army or the original
EP. What is there is the latest version where they redid
it. Which are fine, but the original "I Saw Your
Mommy" was much better.)
- Barenaked
Ladies - Rock Spectacle (These guys are good live! I bet
they put on a great live show. Speaking of which.... 8/21...
We're there, dude....)
- The
Cure - The Head on the Door (1985. I know some of this
stuff from a former uh... person at the time who thought
it would be fun to trade selected songs on tape with me,
to express thoughts/emotions. Probably was my first
exposure to The Cure. Among other bands. This is good.
Amazing how you always associate music to period of your
life or events. Or maybe it's just me. I dunno.)
- The
Cure - Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me (Despite the poor title,
this CD should be good. I know a bit from it already.
This was the CD just before Disintegration. I'll let you
know of course. Anybody reading this???)
- Marilyn
Manson - Remix and Repent (5 Songs from ACSS. 2 remixes,
2 live performances, and an accoustic 'Man that you Fear'.
Very nice. Nice Sunday school music.)
- Pet
Shop Boys - Bilingual (Dammit. Dammit. Dammit. Just what
I needed, another artist to like. Shit! Jen loaned me
recorded copies of this and 'Very' (on the way...) after
I mentioned I was gonna buy one after being inspired by a
song at a bowling alley. They had only played Rush, U2,
Sting, and something else, and I finally complained and
he changed it. Within a few minutes, PSB came on, and I
was stoked, and she was ecstatic. I think Shayna would be
quite impressed with me now. She always did like PSB and
and similar stuff. Depeche mode too. Now, about Duran
Duran..... I have a mental blockage that prevents me from
admitting I like some of their stuff. Eh, also they just
aren't dark enough. Not that PSB are. I make no sense.)
- Fear
Factory - Obsolete (Digipack, with bonus tracks) (Ok, so
I spend the last 2 weeks listening to the Cure and
similar music, then outta the blue comes the need for
some real heavy shit. I went to the store to buy a cd and
tried out this one. Oooooooh..... this is heavy. I equate
it to Sepultura or Pantera genre. It's good and angry,
but I do have a couple complaints. Bands like this should
not do concept albums. They usually force them to try to
sing, which does not work. The lyrics are a little weak,
but hey, I did not buy it for it's literary value. On the
crunch scale, I give it an 8. Overall, good enough to
listen to. Kinda growly, but kewl....)
- The
Cure - Disintegration (Yay! I finally have Cure CDs!!!
And yes, Kyle was right. Disintegration is the best album
ever. Er, well, maybe best Cure album ever. I can easily
see myself listening to this obsessively. If you are at
all interested, you gotta check it out. Right up my alley.
Yay Robert Smith! Update: Yes, I was right. I obsessively
listened to this for the past week. Definately one of the
best.)
- The
Cure - Wish ( Yay! Another Cure CD!! This one is
excellent as well. It was not an instant hit with me like
Disintegration, but grew on me after a couple of listens.
I now rotate between the two.)
- Barenaked
Ladies - Gordon (Another one. This is their first one, as
far as I know. It's pretty good, I've heard it a couple
times before, but need to listen to it more to get a
better idea. I do remember it being very active. The kind
of CD you have to be moving to when you listen. Gordon is
good. I like Gordon!)
- Barenaked
Ladies - Maybe You Should Drive (Goddamn! Yet another one!
Now I only have 2 left. Heard this one once before, and
after a few listens I think it is good, but not a high
ranking one. Eh, but maybe it just needs to grow on me. I
may be too much into The Cure right now to appreciate it
Actually I have listened to it a bit, and I am not really
impressed. Some parts are good, but not all. Oh well. 3
outta 4 ain't bad.)
- Depeche
Mode - 101(This is a double live CD from the Rose bowl
concert back in 1989 or so. They sold out the Rose Bowl.
Oh my. Surprisingly, Depeche mode is a very good live
band. It's very good, and a good mix of songs too. I am
still kicking myself in the head for missing their show
here last year. Dammit.)
- Van
Halen - 3 (Ok, because I am so cool, people just throw
CDs at me. Someone at work gave me this, because they did
not want it. It was new,
- not
even opened yet. I have not listened to it. I am afraid
to. No Sammy, no Dave, no good.)
- Depeche
Mode - Songs of Faith and Devotion: Live (Ok, so here I
go buying more Depeche Mode. One day, I will own it ALL!!!
The studio version of this CD is actually one of my
favorite DM cds. Very bassy, very deep, and of course the
standard DM darkness that I love. This is the full
release, but live. It is pretty good. Makes me wish I
made it to their show when they came through earlier.
Dammit.)
- Depeche
Mode - Some Great Reward (Ooh! Ooh! 1985! I was 11! I
know this stuff! WHY??? Oh yeah, farming my ass off
listening to the radio. I really like this CD. I think
this is the first CD they released that really started to
show their dark side. Groovy. Dark is coool...)
- Depeche
Mode - People Are People (What? Another DM CD? You freak!
Yeah, well, this is another collection. Good one though.)
- Depeche
Mode - Catching up with Depeche Mode (Hey! RIP! The songs
in this collection are the exact ones, and in the exact
order as the Singles 81-85 collection I just bought! Damn!
I'm gonna sue!!! I am so offended. Just kidding! Oh well.)
- Beck
- Mellow Gold (Ok, so when "Loser" came out, I
hated it. Then I heard stuff from "Odelay", and
bought it, then his latest release. So I picked this up
finally because I really like the diversity in his tunes.
Check it out!)
- Duncan
Sheik - Duncan Sheik (YAY!!! Duncan Sheik! More mellow
depressive thought provoking music! Woohoo! As mentioned
previously, I really like this guy. If you are open
minded, check him out. He's got a great voice, and his
lyrics are sometimes...uh....a little to easy to relate
to. This is all Jen's fault.:) )
- God
Lives Underwater - Empty (More industrial goodies! I like
their latest one better, but I need to listen to it more.
I'll update you as I do.)
- Marilyn
Manson - Smells Like Children (Yeah, another Marilyn
Manson CD. Why did I get this? Well, I like his 2 recent
one immensely, and so I figured I'd might as well check
out his older stuff, even though I do not think it is as
good. Oh, I also got it because it is so offensiv, to
help offset the Duncan Sheik CD. :) I like some of it,
but frankly, there is too much none music crap on it.)
- Megadeth
- Rust in Peace (An old CD re-purchase. In my opinion,
this is one of the best Megadeth CDs.)
- Ministry
- The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste (Yet one more
Ministry CD. This one is from '89, and is very good. Very
industrial. A very angry/energetic type thing. It has the
usual Ministy sampling, including bits of "Full
Metal Jacket" and other things. If you like this
sort of thing, this is a required purchase.)
- Godzilla
Soundtrack (This is actually pretty good all around. I
only got it for the new Rage Against the Machine song,
but it is generally pretty good. And I forgive Jimmy Page
for what he allowed Puff Daddy to do to Kashmir. It is
not that bad.)
- Slayer
- South of Heaven (1988. Bonnie, the evil one got me into
this. My alltime favorite Slayer CD. This is the first CD
they released with a new sound. They used to sound very
speed metalish, but they slowed down to get ultra heavy,
and stayed that way for 2 cds. Then, they reverted back,
and it is not as good. Evil CD. I love it!)
- VAST
- Visual Audio Sensory Theatre (Despite the fact that
they are now on regular radio rotation, I heard these
guys months ago. A goth chick who worked with me brought
it to my attention. Very good. Kind of like "Sisters
of Mercy" meets "Ministry". Very
industrial/gothic. Very good. First 4 songs are superb!)
- Aphex
Twin - Richard D. James Album (I bought this on a whim.
It is very drum and bass, techno. It is ok. Not a real
good one, and not worth full price either. But, decent.
may find a place in the rotation in time.)
- Depeche
Mode - The Singles: 81-85 (I was jonsing hard for new
music. So, I go and buy really old music. Good collection.
I definately like these guys. Can you tell by the number
of CDs I own???)
- Suicidal
Tendencies - Controlled By Hatred, Feel Like Shit (Oh
yeah. Old CD. One of the first ST tapes I bought back in
da day, G-money. Oh, sorry. Anyway, I was driving home,
listening to Lights, Camera, Revolution, and I was soooo
into it, making a fool of myself in the car driving down
the road, I stopped by Freddies and had to get more.
Great CD. 10 years old. Shit. I am getting old.)
- Suicidal
Tendencies - Suicidal For Life (Told you I was into it!
Ok, this was the last studio release from the guys. Good
thing too. It is probably their lowest work ever. It
isn't bad, but it was kinda weak. Some things are good.
Funny thing is that I think you can here FUCK on this CD
more often than on an N.W.A. cd. Oh well. My sensitive
ears are done bleeding now.)
- Machines
of Loving Grace - Gilt (Yeah, it's ok. Concentration was
better. It has it's moments. I dunno. Maybe I am just
into BNL and Duncan Sheik and Depeche Mode right now for
this stuff. I do like it though)
- Barenaked
Ladies -Born on a Pirate Ship ( Another BNL CD. Yeah,
here we go. Buy whatever they release. You know the drill.
Typical addict behaviour. Good CD though. ...... ......
...... ...... hee hee.)
- Orgy
- Candyass (First band signed to KoRn's own new label,
Elementree Records. Industrial, Electronic, heavy.
Reminiscent of Manson and NIN and KoRn. Very cool. They
do a great cover of "Blue Monday" from New
Order)
- Barenaked
Ladies - Stunt (Heard this on my road trip, and liked it
enough to have a song stuck in my head this morning. So,
went and picked it up this morning before work. I like
this CD alot. Very infectious, kinda folky, a bit of
everything in there. I have listened to it all day. I am
now. Like it the more I hear it. YAY!!! New CD!! Thanks
Jen.)
- Duncan
Sheik - Humming (Ok, so I am really weak. I also heard
his first CD on the road trip, and liked it too. I have
it on order, but got anxious to hear more, so I bought it
as well. Very, very mellow. Almost depressive, but
musically great, voice is good, and the lyrics are
intelligent. It is a great CD, but has a place. Don't
play it if you are in a good mood. Might quiet you down.
Good though. Thanks again, Jen. UPDATE! I really really
really really really really like this guy's music. How
many people do you know who can listen to NIN, and
immediately afterwards put in Duncan Sheik? That's right,
just me. Ok, so maybe 2 people. Yeah yeah, fine! Ok?)
- Various
Artists - For the Masses; A Depeche Mode Tribune (This is
is a collection of bands covering Depeche Mode tunes.
Normally, I don't get into this sorta thing, because I
appreciate the originals more. And in this case I still
do, but there are some good covers on here. Produced by
God Lives Underwater. It has them, The Cure, Failure, The
Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins, Dishwalla, Rammstein and
others on it. Good collection.)
- Ministry
- Filth Pig (This is the one with guy with meat on his
head on the cover. Very very good. It takes a little to
grow on you, but once it does, you won't stop listening
to it. 'Dead Guy', 'Hot Lava', 'Fith Pig'; EXCELLENT
songs. Dark, angry, deep, heavy. Dude, this is a CD that
deserves to be LOUD. This CD is perfect if you are
somewhat angry, but not slayer angry, depressed, but not
Pink Floyd depressed, introverted, but not SP Adore
introverted. This is a good 'I am irritated at the world'
CD. Must be why I am listening to it so much now. They
have a new CD out in summer '99, BTW)
- Machines
of Loving Grace - Concentration (I bought this because I
really liked the song they have on The Crow Soundtrack. I
visited some sites, and heard some tunes. Pretty cool. If
you like NIN, Marylin Manson, Gravity Kills, Ministry, or
anything industrial, check 'em out. I like 'em. Gonna get
more. Goddamn, I am a serious junkie.)
- Metallica
- Garage Inc. (A 2 disc collection of old and new cover
tunes. The sad part is that most of the stuff on here is
way better than anything on the last 2 cds they released.
Disc 2 is the better one. Disc 1 is ok, but I could have
done with out the "Turn the Page" cover. It
makes me want to vomit almost as much as 'Re-Load' does.
Oh, and the "Tuesday's Gone" cover I could have
lived forever without having to hear that shit. Why do I
continue to buy this stuff from these folks? I dunno.
Maybe it is just because I have listened to 'em for 12+
years, and there is some nostalgic value or something. I
do wish they would go back to the way they were before
Load, though. Oh well, I am sure I can find other bands
to listen to, as this list obviously shows I have.)
- Depeche
Mode - Black Celebration (Did you know this disc was 12
years old? Geez. How come I know it so well? I was 12-13
then. Wow. How many times can you listen to a cd
repeatedly until you hate it? I dunno, but I am on the
way to finding it out. I love this CD!! I listened to it
5 timed in a row Sunday, and god knows how many times
since. If you like 'em, GET IT!!!)
- Ice
Cube - War & Peace Vol. 1 (The War Disc) (Yes, I got
my gangsta fix. Cube hasn't had a solo cd in years, so
this is pretty sweeet. Deep, angry, intelligent. Ya gotta
respect Don Megga. Volume 2 (Peace) will be out in early
'99.)
- Godsmack
- Godsmack (Picked this up after hearing "Whatever"
on KISW. 10 bucks at Freddies. Pretty cool. Metallica
meets AIC. With some industrial hints here and there. I
swear the dude sounds like Hetfield sometimes....)
- Beck
- Mutations (Very groovy. Mellow, hip, Beck. Check it out.)
- Depece
Mode - Music for the Masses (What can I say? If you like
'em go get it, dammit!)
- Slayer
- Seasons in the Abyss (Oooohh.... Angry angry angry. I
wonder what prompted me to re-buy this today...)
- Natalie
Imbruglia - Left of the Middle (A suprise. I listened to
it in the store, and liked it!)
- Marylin
Manson - Mechanical Animals (Vastly different from ACSS,
but good in it's own right. Much more techno, and very
insightful.)
- U2
- Zooropa (a replacement)
- Depeche
Mode - The Singles 86-98 (The definitive collection from
the techo pioneers)
- God
Lives Underwater - Life in the So-called Space Age (Industial-
techno. Very, very good. )
- Rob
Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe (What can I say. It is Zombie.)
- Second
Coming (Grunge (with industrial highlights) returns with
this Shoreline band)
- Elmore
James - The Very Best Of: (This is good 'ole blues
drinkin' music. Bottle of Jack, a cigar, and a buddy.)
I'm
really sad, aren't I?!
Go back to Kansas, toto.
