The nice thing about this hike is that you go to Darrington, and you get to see my favorite range: Whitehorse, Big Four, White Chuck, and Three Fingers. Darrington gets to see this every day. Lucky bastards!

After Darrington, you get to drive on an unpopulated road for 14.5 miles to the trailhead. It is paved for most of it, except in places...

What this really means is that for stretches there is no pavement, and it is not 'gravel' either. It is large chunky rocks & potholes from washouts.

Not too far down the road you come across a rather impressive waterfall righ along side the road! Waterfalls would be a re-occuring theme for the day....

Sunny climbed up to the top of this thing and messed around for a bit. Me? I wanted to proceed to the trailhead. So, this is me motioning to her to come down. :)

The trailhead was empty, and it was already after 9am by the time we got there. No one! But, shortly after we arrived one older guy did show up and we farted around until he left and then got ready.

I know that this looks nice, but the happy little green plants you see are thorny and mean. Purdy, but mean!

Actually, I am wrong. The trail was heavily populated. But not with people. Slugs. Buckets of slimy & shiny black slugs. Everywhere! Amazingly, I don't think we squished a single one!

This trail is very nice. It is not very trampled, and very narrow in places. It is steep, but it did not seem to be much of a problem for most of it. Did I mention there were waterfalls? Oh yeah. Plenty of them.

It is a good thing that there were so many falls and plenty moss to look at, because there were no views!! This is the best view we got.

Keep on trucking, onward & ever upwards on a lovely trail.

Mr. Ranger was right. At about 4 miles there is hike-stopping snow, right at Camp Bugner. So, we braved the bugs and ate lunch. Normally when I stop for lunch at the end of the trail, I get a view. Not this time. Here is my view.

This was not on my lists of hikes for this year, but the Darrington Ranger stated that it was snowfree for 4.2 miles. There were no views from the trail, but it was a very nice hike in the forest.

I'll be back. Maybe I'll even do the full 14 miles round trip to get the views.

Go back to the main hiking page!
