It’s been a while since I made a blog entry. Time has been slipping (slipping, slipping, into the future…) by and I don’t know where it goes, except for work, doggie and home/teenager care, and sleep. Other than that, it’s a mystery.
Tomorrow afternoon I board a flight to Dallas, where I then will go out to the wilds of Texas to meet with my father. We have been exchanging rather interesting email over the last month, and it’s been quite positive and informative. With the exception of an inconsequential meeting when I was in Casa Grande to move my mother to Centralia about 6 years ago, I have not had any contact with him over the last 15 years until now. This visit is huge, and anyone who knows me or has read this blog or its predecessor over the years knows that this is a major event in my life. A major positive event. Goober will be with me as well; I think it’s only fair that she meets her father-in-law. Finally.
Time will tell what comes from this renewed contact. But I’m glad we’re going down the road now.
Now, that’s an expression that I haven’t heard in a very long time! :-)
Regarding the Twitter thingie and the bizarre beer order, I saw the same thing, only in Arkansas. I am reminded of the “we don’t need to bring ink and paper into this” bit from the late Mitch Hedberg, only he was talking about receiving a receipt for a doughnut he’d bought.
I hate dry counties, asinine liquor laws, and basically prohibition in general. There are a couple of them close to where my mom lives. Just more bullshit hassles, and for what purpose? We have some crap city ordinance that the Mormons have imposed on us, meaning that I can’t go get a growler filled. I have to go to a neighboring town for that, so the neighboring town reaps the benefits instead of my town. I think it’s supposed to fall under some open-container laws, even though the lids are sealed. It doesn’t make any damn sense!
I hope everything else is going good, by the way. I know this trip means a lot to you. :)
Texas is one fudged up state.
